Deborah Nowinski mounted Dionysus in memory of her son, Dustin who died of bone cancer in 1997 at the age of 15. In the 12 years of running Dionysus she has written or co-written with Glenn Sharp the following plays: Love is a Disabilty, Yada Yada Yada, That's What Im Sayin', Media's Children, HanuRamaKwanzaMas, Code Red White and Blue: A Tapestry of American Voices. Select directing credits include Autistic License, Violet, Seussical the Musical, Honk, And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson, Children of a Lesser God, Voices of the Prairie and Pirates of Penzance. She is the recipient of KPRC Jefferson Award, Mayors Advocate of the Year Award, Top Ten Businesswoman of the Year- NAWBO Award, Dorothy Caram Blueprint United Way (Nominated), Leadership in the Arts, YWCA Woman in the Arts Awards. She is also active with Red Cross as a disaster action team member. She is proud of her son, Skyler, who is a professional actor in Minneapolis and graduate of the Guthrie Theatre/University of Minnesota Actors training program.
